I recommend taking one of Andra's classes at elephant - I found it really helpful because it is hard to understand the signs from a book. But babycenter.com has some info on signing if you can't make a class.

Answer to Paige
There are several great ASL websites if you need to look up how to sign a word in general. Here is one!

http://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/as lpro/aslpro.cgi

However, if you are going to start signing with your child you should come to an introductory class for a clearer understanding of the how's and when's and to learn some simple starter signs.

Thanks for the question

I'm a speech-language pathologist who recently treated a 20 month old child who'd just been diagnosed and received received aids for a severe hearing loss. Because her wonderful parents had been signing to her, language acquisition was right on target, but with signs rather than spoken words. By 3 years of age, she still used signs to help when her speech, now 5-8 word sentences, was unclear. This was a best case scenario for using signs!
